Unlocking The Secrets Of Prayer

The Necessity and Power of Prayer

Prayer is more than just words; it's our lifeline to God. It bridges the gap between our humanity and His divinity. In the beginning, God and Adam had direct fellowship, but after the fall, that direct line was disrupted. This is why prayer is so essential—it helps us restore that lost fellowship.

Understanding the Obstacles to Effective Prayer

One of the biggest struggles we face in prayer is the feeling that we're speaking into the ether, that our words aren't reaching anyone. This lack of tangible goals can be demotivating. Unlike reading the Bible or worshiping in church, which provide immediate feedback and emotional responses, prayer often requires us to have faith in the unseen. The Bible says, "For we live by faith, not by sight." (2 Corinthians 5:7)

The Battle of Wills

Prayer is also where the battle of wills takes place—God's will, our will, and the enemy's will. To ensure our prayers are answered, we must align our will with God's will. This alignment isn't always easy because our flesh often desires things contrary to God's plan. As James 1:14-15 says, "But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death."

Aligning Our Prayers with God's Will

The Three Wills

  1. God's Will: His primary desire is for His kingdom to be established on Earth. "Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10)

  2. Man's Will: Often driven by short-term gratification and desires of the flesh.

  3. The Enemy's Will: Focused on accusation, condemnation, and rebellion against God's authority. "For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down." (Revelation 12:10)

The Importance of Alignment

True prayer must be initiated by God and aligned with His will. This requires discernment and a deep understanding of God's purpose. By allowing our prayers to brood in our spirits and build into burdens, we can ensure they are in harmony with God's desires. The Bible assures us in 1 John 5:14, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."

The Continuum of God's Will

The process of understanding and living out God's will involves a continual transformation and renewal of the mind. This transformation allows believers to increasingly discern and align with what is good, acceptable, and perfect in God’s sight.

As believers' minds are renewed, they are better equipped to test (examine and discern) and approve (embrace and live out) God’s will. This involves practical, daily decisions as well as long-term life choices.

The descriptors "good, acceptable, and perfect" suggest a holistic approach to growth in the Christian life. It’s about developing moral excellence, pleasing God, and reaching spiritual maturity.

Romans 12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Good, Acceptable, and Perfect Will

  1. Good Will: Actions allowed by God that serve a greater purpose.

  2. Acceptable Will: Actions within God's tolerance that come at a cost.

  3. Perfect Will: Actions that align completely with God's divine purpose and bring ultimate fulfillment.

How It Applies to Us

  • Marriage: God's good will is that everyone gets married. His acceptable will allows marriage to avoid immorality, while His perfect will involves marrying the right person at the right time, as provided by God. "The prudent wife comes from the Lord." (Proverbs 19:14)

  • Health: It is God's good will for us to enjoy good health. His acceptable will allows for healing when we are sick, but His perfect will is that sickness never exists. "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." (Revelation 21:4)

  • Spiritual Growth: God's good will is for all to know Him. His acceptable will encourages growth in faith and knowledge, while His perfect will is for believers to attain the whole measure of Christ. "Until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." (Ephesians 4:13)

Embracing the Perfect Will of God

In our journey of prayer, it's crucial to seek the perfect will of God. This involves obedience, sacrifice, and a willingness to align our desires with His divine purpose. By doing so, we unlock the full potential of our prayers and experience the tangible power of God in our lives.

As you reflect on today's message, consider how you can align your prayers with God's will. Engage in a deeper relationship with Him, and let your prayers be a true reflection of His desires for your life. Remember, Jesus taught us the ultimate prayer of alignment: "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." (Luke 22:42)
